What will you see in the Russian Museum of Ethnography?

The Russian Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg is rightly called the main treasury of the national culture of Russia. Its halls and galleries have unique collections devoted to history, crafts, costumes and arts. Here are collected all the ethnic groups that lived in Russia, in the Soviet Union and to this day living in modern Russia — from the shores of the Baltic Sea to the Urals, Siberia, Transbaikalia and the Far East.

Nearest metro station: Gostiny Dvor and Nevsky Prospect
Public transport: The attraction is located in the historic city center, so getting here is not difficult. The nearest stop is "Engineering" - there are several regular buses and minibuses; the museum is literally a stone's throw away. From the Nevsky Prospekt metro station, go through Mikhailovskaya Street and Square, about 500 meters.

The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The museum is closed at 5.00 p.m. on holidays
Every Tuesday the museum is opened for visitors until 09.00 p.m.

One land - different nationalities

The Russian Ethnographic Museum is one of the largest ethnographic museums in Europe. Cultural monuments of 157 nationalities and ethnographic groups of Russia and neighboring countries are stored in its vaults. The museum’s clothing collection allows you to comprehensively present the culture and life of both large nations and small nations, the number of which does not exceed one hundred or two hundred people. Most of the exhibits date back to the 19th — early 20th centuries. Monuments provide an opportunity to show the economic activities of the people, folk architecture and home life, ritual practice, religious beliefs, the traditional experience of raising children, examples of artistic creativity. The museum has open exhibits on the life and traditional activities of the peoples of different regions of the former Russian Empire. The exhibition of products from precious metals — "Special Pantry" is very popular among visitors.
